Jon Christensen roamed the West as an environmental journalist and science writer for 20 years before coming to Stanford as a Knight Professional Journalism Fellow in 2002-2003. He was a Steinbeck Fellow at San Jose State University in 2003-2004, and returned to Stanford for a PhD in environmental history, history of science, and the American West. He has written for The New York Times, High Country News, Nature, and other science journals, newspapers, magazines, and public radio and television shows. At Stanford, he teaches an interdisciplinary research design seminar in environment and resources for graduate students, a course entitled "Climate Change in the West: A History of the Future,” and a Sophomore College course on the West, this year while rafting the Grand Canyon.
