Randy Olson

Contributing Photographer, National Geographic Magazine

Randy Olson has spent the last 18 years shooting around the world for National Geographic.  His stories for the magazine include articles about Ethiopia’s Omo River, Ituri forest pygmies, Sudan, Australia’s monsoons, Black Sea culture, the salmon industry on Russia's Kamchatka peninsula, and Maasai culture, among others.  His most recent work with the magazine will be featured in a January 2011 story on population.  Olson was named the Magazine Photographer of the Year for 2003 in the Pictures of the Year International competition and was awarded Newspaper Photographer of the Year in 1992, one of only two photographers to win the title in both media.  He received an Alicia Patterson Fellowship to support a seven-year project documenting a family with AIDS and a Robert F. Kennedy Award for his story on problems with Section 8 housing.
