Doug Fine

Author and Carbon-Neutral Cowboy, Farewell, My Subaru

Doug Fine is an adventure writer and investigative journalist. He has reported on a freelance basis for The Washington Post, Salon, U.S. News and World Report, Sierra, Wired, Outside, and other publications, from remote locations such as Burma, Rwanda, Laos, Guatemala and Tajikistan. Fine’s second book, Farewell, My Subaru, published in 2009, describes his own “Hypocrisy Reduction Project” to see if he could live a truly sustainable lifestyle in a remote valley in Southern New Mexico. His conclusion? Yes. He now travels around the world speaking about his sustainability realizations and is a regular contributor of adventure and investigative features to National Public Radio. Despite all the accolades, he “still milks his goats one teat at a time like all former suburbanite, neo-Rugged Individualist Organic Cowboys.”
