Jan Zalasiewicz is a senior lecturer in geology at the University of Leicester, U.K., previously of the British Geological Survey. He has a B.Sc. in geology from Sheffield University and a PhD from the University of Cambridge. A field geologist and palaeontologist, he has served as chair of the Stratigraphy Commission of the Geological Society of London. Interests include comparing contemporary environmental change with deep-time geological change and the concept of the Anthropocene -- the epoch of geological time dominated by human activity. He is author of The Earth After Us (2008) and The Planet in a Pebble (in press, 2010).
