Robert Draper

Contributing Writer, National Geographic Magazine

Robert Draper has been a contributing writer to National Geographic since 2007. His reporting has taken him to such places as the Nubian pyramids of Sudan, drought-stricken Australia, the American West’s cowboy country, lawless Somalia, war-torn Afghanistan, the pillaged rain forests of Madagascar and the womanless monastic peninsula of Mount Athos in Greece.  He also writes about American politics for GQ and the New York Times Magazine, and is the author of several book-length works of fiction and nonfiction—most recently, DEAD CERTAIN: THE PRESIDENCY OF GEORGE W. BUSH, the New York Times bestselling biography that the Simon & Schuster imprint Free Press published in 2007. He is currently at work on a book tentatively titled, THE ARC: AMERICA’S JOURNEY FROM KING’S ASSASSINATION TO OBAMA’S ELECTION, which Free Press will publish in 2012.  A native Texan, he now lives in Washington D.C.
