Mathis Wackernagel

President, Global Footprint Network

Mathis Wackernagel is a founder and president of Global Footprint Network, an international policy think tank dedicated to making ecological limits central to decision-making everywhere. He created, with William Rees, the “Ecological Footprint,” a widely used sustainability tool. He is a Frank H. T. Rhodes Class of 1956 visiting professor at Cornell University, and his awards include an honorary doctorate from the University of Bern; the 2007 Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship; the 2006 WWF Award for Conservation Merit; and the 2005 Herman Daly Award of the United States Society for Ecological Economics.
