A.N.M. Muniruzzaman is a retired major general of the Bangladesh Army and is currently the president of the Bangladesh Institute of Peace and Security Studies, a think tank focused on strategic and security issues affecting Asia and beyond. Beside other areas of expertise, he is a specialist on climate change and security. He is also a member of the International Advisory Council on Security Implications of Climate Change and is involved in research initiatives on climate change and water security in Himalayan Basin areas. He is frequently consulted by local and international media on issues of security and climate change, and is editor of the academic journal Peace and Security Review. He also recently launched the South Asian Network on Security and Climate Change.
