Cheryl Hayashi

Professor of Biology, University of California, Riverside

Cheryl Hayashi is a professor of biology at the University of California, Riverside. Her research focuses on the evolution of silk and her lab’s accomplishments include cloning silk genes and tensile testing silk fibers from a diversity of spiders. In addition to her research, she is dedicated to fostering future scientists and communicating science to the public. She is from Hawaii, where she was named a U.S. Presidential Scholar. She received a B.S. from Yale University and a PhD. through a joint program with Yale and the American Museum of Natural History.  In 2007, she was named a MacArthur Fellow.
