Robert B. Gagosian is the president and CEO of the Consortium for Ocean Leadership, where he oversees the management of major research and education programs and coordinates advocacy efforts, articulating to policy makers the importance of ocean research and education. He served as director of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) from 1994 to 2006. Other positions he held there include chairman of the Chemistry Department, WHOI director of research and senior associate director. He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a PhD. in organic chemistry from Columbia University. From 1970 to 1972, he was a National Institutes of Health postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, Berkeley.
