Michelle Nijhuis is a science and environmental journalist and a contributor to National Geographic. Her reporting on science and the environment has appeared in Smithsonian, The New York Times, Audubon and elsewhere, and Best American Science and Nature Writing. She is also a longtime contributing editor of High Country News, a magazine known for its in-depth coverage of environmental issues in the western United States. She lives in rural western Colorado.
