Daniel Nocera is the Henry Dreyfus Professor of Energy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and director of MIT’s Solar Revolutions Project and its Eni Solar Frontiers Center. A leading researcher in renewable energy at the molecular level, he studies the basic mechanisms of energy conversion in biology and chemistry, with primary focus on the photogeneration of hydrogen and oxygen from water. His most recent discovery duplicates the solar fuels process of photosynthesis outside the leaf and sets a course for large-scale deployment of solar energy by providing a mechanism for its storage as a fuel. He developed the pilot for the PBS program ScienceNow, and his PBS NOVA show on fuels cells was nominated for a 2006 Emmy Award.
