Mark Jenkins is an award-winning writer and adventurer and a contributing writer for National Geographic magazine. Previously, he was global correspondent for Rodale Press and, for eight years, “The Hard Way” columnist for Outside. He has also served as the adventure/investigative editor of Men's Health, Rocky Mountain editor of Backpacker, and managing editor of Adventure Travel and Cross Country Skier. He has worked as a freelance journalist in Africa for Time, Reuters, Voice of America, and Deutsch Presse Agentur. He has also published four books of adventure writing, and his stories and photography have appeared in dozens of national and international publications, including the Atlantic Monthly, Bicycling, Conde Naste Traveler, GQ, Playboy, Reader's Digest, Sierra, Sports Afield, the Utne Reader, the Washington Post, and World.
