Jane Long

Associate Director at Large, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory

Jane Long is principal associate director at large for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and a fellow of its Center for Global Strategic Research. Her current interests are in reinvention of the energy system in light of climate change, national security issues, economic stress, and ecological breakdown. Previously, she led the laboratory’s energy and environment directorate. She is the former dean of the Mackay School of Mines, and she led the University of Nevada at Reno’s initiative for renewable energy projects and directed the Great Basin Center for Geothermal Energy. She has also worked at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. She has conducted extensive research on nuclear waste storage, geothermal reservoirs, petroleum reservoirs, and contaminant transport, and she currently cochairs the California Council on Science and Technology’s study of California’s energy future.
