Martin Hoffert

Professor Emeritus of Physics, New York University

Martin Hoffert is professor emeritus of physics and former chairman of the applied science department at New York University. He has published on climate science, plasma physics, planetary atmospheres, oceanography, solar and wind energy conversion, space-based solar power, and energy policy, and his work includes the first ocean-climate model used by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change to assess global warming. His energy research covers wind turbines, photovoltaic hydrogen production, and laser beam power transmission. He now  works mainly on carbon-neutral power to address global warming and peak oil. A senior fellow of the Breakthrough Institute, he is chairman of the board of the Aspen Global Change Institute and the chief scientist of Versatility Software Inc.
