Angela Belcher

Germeshausen Professor of Materials Science & Engineering and Biological Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Angela Belcher is a materials chemist with expertise in biomaterials, biomolecular materials, organic-inorganic interfaces, and solid-state chemistry. Her work focuses on evolving organisms to build new materials and devices for clean energy, electronics, the environment, and medicine. She joined the faculty at MIT as the John Chipman Professor of Materials Science and Engineering and Biological Engineering in 2002. In 2006, she was appointed Germeshausen Professor of Materials Science and Engineering and Biological Engineering. The recipient of a MacArthur Foundation fellowship and other awards, she was named Scientific America’s Research Leader of the Year in 2006. Her work has been published in many scientific journals.
