Gale Norton

General Counsel, Royal Dutch Shell

Gale Norton is general counsel for Royal Dutch Shell's unconventional oil directorate, which is engaged in technological development and research projects to unlock the potential of oil shale and heavy oil resources, as well as in-situ production of Canadian oil sands. She was the 48th secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior and the first woman to head the department. Previously, she served as senior counsel at Brownstein, Hyatt & Farber, PC and as attorney general of Colorado.
She was also an associate solicitor of the Interior Department, overseeing endangered species and public lands legal issues for the National Park Service and the Fish and Wildlife Service, an assistant to the deputy secretary of agriculture, and a senior attorney for the Mountain States Legal Foundation.
