H.R. H. Princess Basma Bint Ali is president of Jordan’s Royal Ecological Diving Society, which works to protect the undersea world in the Gulf of Aqaba. She also chairs the National Environment Wildlife Society and the Red Crescent Society in Jordan, and she has found and chaired a number of other grassroots NGOs in the field of environment and sustainable development that have helped raise civic participation in and public responsibility for environmental protection. She served as a major in the Jordanian army and was the first Jordanian woman to qualify as a navy diver.
