Patricia Nelson Limerick

Faculty Director and Chair of the Board of the Center of the American West, University of Colorado

Patty Limerick is faculty director and chair of the board of the Center of the American West at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where she is also professor of history. She is the author of Desert Passages: Encounters with the American Deserts and The Legacy of Conquest, an overview and reinterpretation of Western American history. A prolific essayist and commentator, she has published a collection of many of her articles in Something in the Soil. She was named a MacArthur Fellow in 1995, and in 2001 she received the University of Colorado's highest award for teaching and research. Current projects include a book about the role of the Department of Interior in the West, an illustrated history of the Denver Water Board, and a PBS series on "Living with Energy."
