William Becker is executive director of the Presidential Climate Action Project and former central regional director for the US Department of Energy, where he also founded and directed the Center of Excellence for Sustainable Development and created its Smart Communities Network Web site. A national expert on sustainable community development, he has worked with disaster-stricken communities from Thailand to New Orleans helping them plan sustainable reconstruction. He has also consulted with Chinese officials on the greening of the 2008 Olympic Village. Most recently, he organized four national leadership summits for a sustainable America, culminating in a five-year action plan to advance national sustainability in a time of climate change.
