Rob Kunzig is environment editor for National Geographic magazine. A science journalist for the past 29 years, he specializes in earth science and the environment. As a freelance writer, his work has appeared in Time, Scientific American, Discover, U.S. News & World Report, and other magazines. His 2009 article on Canadian oil sands mining, "Scraping Bottom," was nominated for a 2010 National Magazine Award for Public Interest journalism. He has written two books, Fixing Climate and Mapping the Deep: The Extraordinary Story of Ocean Science, which was awarded both the Aventis Prize for Science Books by the Royal Society in London and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Ocean Science Journalism Award.
