Strobe Talbott assumed the presidency of the Brookings Institution in 2002 after a career in journalism, government and academe. He previously served as founding director of the Yale Center for the Study of Globalization. Before that, he served in the State Department, first as ambassador-at-large and special advisor to the secretary of state for the new independent nations of the former Soviet Union, then as deputy secretary of state for seven years. He entered government service after 21 years with Time magazine. His most recent book, Fast Forward, Ethics and Politics in the Age of Global Warming, which he co-authored with William Antholis, Brookings managing director, was published in May 2010.
